THE PURPLE PALMS OF BLUESEALAND - Ritual Music

Around the turn of the 20th century, inspired by Anaphoria, I decided i wanted my own island and I invented Bluesealand. At the time I didnt know that there is an actual island called Sealand. A private island that lies just of the coast of Britain. It is an actual country with a passport etc. Anaphoria is an imaginary island invented by musician Kraig Grady. It exists only on line but also has a passport, flag, history, embassy and music of its own.

Sealand is here - sealandgov.org/en-eu
Anaphoria is here - www.anaphoria.com

BlueSealand doesnt, as yet, boast a flag, passport etc but i did make postage stamps for the Bluesealand Correos at one point. They made their first appearance in my White Shadows In The South Seas installation in Rome and in the booklet insert for my Globe Notes vinyl release on No=Fi records in 2013.

Here I have begun to make a catalogue of some of the most recent ritual music that can be heard on BlueSealand. The local culture and music, askewing traditional instruments, is futuristic, technologically advanced and digital, and with an acknowledgement and consideration for nature.

Legend has it that one day in 1967 a container ship on its way from Taiwan across the Pacific Ocean crewed by Sulawesi merchant seamen, encountered a violent storm and a rogue wave hit the ship destroying its navigation, radar and wireless systems. Several containers were washed overboard which drifted for several months before turning up on the beaches of BlueSealand. One of the containers had computers inside and another several boxes of freshly pressed vinyl L.P.s. A recently returned from overseas member of the population was computer savvy and quickly taught everyone how to utilise this bounty particularly for making music. Amongst the vinyl boxes was one that soon became a huge favourite among locals called Silver Apples Of The Moon by Morton Subotnik. The influence of this record can be detected in their ritual music.

Track 12 - The Wild Birds Of Bluesealand was made for the compilation album Synthetic Bird Music compiled by Jakub Juhás (mappa) and is available also on Bandcamp.
